Five magnitude earthquake jolts southern Philippines

Manila: An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale hit today Antique Province in the southern Philippines.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the epicenter of the quake is located 20 kilometers southwest of the municipality of Anini-y in the province, at a depth of 6 kilometers.

So far, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake.

On July 27, an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale struck the northern Philippines province of Abra, killing more than 9 people and injuring hundreds.

The Philippines is located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where about 90 percent of the world's earthquakes occur.
