Ramallah: Speaker of the Palestinian National Council (PNC) Rawhi Fattouh condemned Wednesday the aggressive statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding what he called "Greater Israel's vision" to annex Palestinian territories and parts of Arab countries, considering it an embodiment of a colonialist, Judaising mentality backed by American protection.
In a statement, Fattouh stressed that the reason for this arrogance, conceit, and extremism is the American immunity and guardianship that supports and protects the positions of the far-right government.
He warned that the continuation of these policies in the absence of international pressure, the impunity of the occupation government, and the neutralisation of international humanitarian law poses a direct threat to regional and international peace and security, and creates a fertile environment for the spread of violence and killing and the expansion of the circle of instability, which undermines the foundations of the international system based on respect for the sovereignty of states and the rights of peoples to self-determination.
He also emphasized that these positions reflect a systematic expansionist policy, manifested in genocide and forced displacement in Gaza, ethnic cleansing in the West Bank and Jerusalem, and attacks by settlers, in flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, international law, and Security Council resolutions. He asserted that attempts at annexation and changing the legal status of the Palestinian people are "null and void."
Fattouh urged the international community to take immediate action to halt this madness of extremism and fascism, impose sanctions, and isolate the racist occupying entity.
He emphasized that a just peace will only be achieved by ending the occupation, empowering the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights to freedom, justice, and independence, and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
