Berlin: A suspicious object that may contain explosives was discovered Thursday at a German train station in the southern town of Treuchtlingen, police said.
Specialised police units were taking a close look at the item, which was discovered on the tracks at the station, the police authority for the region of Middle Franconia in Bavaria said in a post on X just before 11:00 am (0900GMT).
"Federal Police specialists are currently examining the object, which poses an explosive hazard," police wrote on X. "Please continue to avoid the area and give it a wide berth."
Treuchtlingen is a town of about 13,000 residents located roughly 150 kilometres (95 miles) north of Munich.
The train station there is a railway junction important for regional train traffic and long-distance trains, with lines connecting to Munich, Nuremberg and other Bavarian cities.
Train traffic through the station was halted on Thursday morning as police investigated the object.
