BAQUBA: At least seven people were killed and 33 wounded as bomb blasts struck worshippers leaving a mosque north of Iraq's capital after joint Sunni-Shiite prayers Friday, police and medical sources said.

Police said two booby-trapped devices blew up near the Sunni mosque of Al-Salam (peace) in central Baquba, 60 kilometres or 35 miles from Baghdad, after Sunnis and Shiites joined together in weekly prayers.

The mixed sectarian region of Baquba has in past weeks been hit by several deadly bombings, mainly targeting Shiites.

The attacks come amid Iraq's worst bloodshed since 2008, with more than 4,000 people killed already this year. (AFP)
