DOHA: Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has awarded 74 major road and sewage development projects across the country to local firms, including Qatari proprietorship firms 100 percent owned by Qataris and limited liability companies (LLCs) in which Qataris have a majority 51 percent share.
The contracts awarded since the beginning of 2014 to Qatari proprietorship firms are valued at QR3.5bn and those to LLCs total QR11.4bn, Al Sharq reported yesterday.
Ahsgal said it gives contracts worth QR100m to Qatrai proprietorship firms only as part of its policy. Foreign-owned and LLCs are not allowed to take part in the bidding process for such tenders. While contracts worth QR100m to QR200m are awarded to companies of shared ownership between Qataris and non-Qataris, the Qataris must have more than 51 percent stake in such a company. Ashgal reiterated its commitment to maintain transparency in awarding infrastructure projects, saying companies that do not qualify for or win a tender have the right to know the reasons.
