Doha: Qatar Football Association (QFA) and Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to announce the launch of the Qatar Universities Football League.

Organised by Qatar Foundation, in collaboration with QFA, the first action-packed tournament is set to kick-off on October 24 and will run until November 30.

The competition will take place on the football pitch outside Qatar Foundation’s Recreation Centre, with matches involving teams from 12 colleges and universities to be held every Thursday and Saturday.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Saoud Al Mohannadi, Executive Committee Member of QFA and Dr. Khalid Al Khanji, Vice President of Student Affairs at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, alongside other leading representatives from universities and colleges across Qatar.

Speaking of the deal, Al Mohannadi said: “We are delighted to sign an agreement with Qatar Foundation today to launch this remarkable tournament as it aims to increase awareness about the importance of exercise and leading a healthy lifestyle by playing an active sport like football.”

He added: “We are committed to providing a platform for community events that youth can participate in, so they can learn more about the importance of playing sports in order to stay healthy.”

Dr. Khalid said: “The Qatar Universities Football League further exemplifies the commitment to build a more dynamic and engaging campus life for students of HBKU and its partner universities. Intercollegiate organisations such as this reinforce a greater sense of community, promote teamwork and encourages personal wellbeing for all who participate.”

Hundreds of football enthusiasts from colleges and universities across Qatar will play in the tournament this year.THE PENINSULA
