Doha: The 13th IHG Qatar Mixed Open — represented by InterContinental Doha, InterContinental Doha The City and Crowne Plaza Doha The Business Park, in association with Mitsubishi Motors — was held on October 10 and 11 at Doha Golf Club. The tournament was officially launched last Thursday (October 9) in the presence of embassy officials and corporate executives.
The tournament attracted a top class amateur field of 200 golfers (100 couples) from throughout the Gulf region who competed in the two-day golfing event.
The agenda included a complimentary practice round on October 10 followed by one tournament round played in Greensomes format over the Championship Course at the exclusive Doha Golf Club.
This annual event, a highlight on Doha Golf Club’s schedule, allows GCC golfers to play against world-class golfers.
“This year and as part of our ‘responsible business’ strategic vision, we continued with our charity auction on the awards night where the collected funds went to two important organisations, IHG Shelter in the Storm, in support of victims of natural disasters over the world, and the second organisation was Qatar Cancer Society. The Society is one of the leading humanitarian organisations in Qatar that pledges to work towards increasing public awareness about cancer and cancer prevention”, said Andreas Pfister, General Manager and Area General Manager, Qatar IHG.
“IHG is committed to the development of sports in Qatar; we have demonstrated this
over the years by organising and sponsoring many sporting
events and competitions in our host community in Doha,” Pfister added.
Prizes that were awarded included the top five couples and special prizes such as “the most exercised couple”, the longest drive and nearest to the pin. The prize-distribution ceremony was followed by a lavish dinner.
