DOHA: A meeting of senior officials of the GCC ministries of interior held in Kuwait yesterday endorsed the proposed GCC security pact and agreed on a proposal to set up a unified police force for the region.
The proposals will be tabled at the meeting of the GCC ministers of interior to be held in Kuwait at the end of this month, Qatar News Agency reported yesterday, quoting Brig Haza Al Hajri, assistant secretary-general for security affairs at the GCC secretariat.
Talking to the media after the undersecretary level meeting, Al Hajri said that the GCC security pact has been approved and endorsed by the member countries. Commenting on the security situation in the region, he said “we have a pact to combat terrorism and it will be implemented whenever needed.”
He added that the situation is stable and the GCC security agencies are closely monitoring the developments. There is also regular exchange of information related to terrorism.
The meeting also discussed a proposal to connect the control rooms of the GCC ministries of interior through a common network. The next undersecretary level meeting will be held in Qatar, QNA reported.
