The world’s top 3x3 basketball teams yesterday took centre stage at Doha’s Katara Beach, where hundreds of fans turned up to watch the players in action. Novi Sad from Serbia broke home hearts with a 20-12 win over Team Doha in the final and walked away with the top prize of $35,000. Captain Dusan Domovic, the world number one in 3x3 basketball, received the winning trophy from FIBA President Horacio Muratore and Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrehman Al Thani, President of Qatar Basketball Federation. Novi Sad remained unbeaten in four games, including the final, yesterday. Four other sides — Kaunas U18, Saskatoon and Yokohama — also featured in the one-day event. In 3x3 basketball every team fields three players, with each game lasting just 10 minutes. The players target one basket to score points.
