DOHA: More than 300 local and international experts will gather in Doha for the fifth Pan Arab Liver Transplant Society Congress hosted by the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) on Thursday and Friday.
To be held at the Ritz Carlton Doha, the event brings together experts and leading figures in the liver transplant community to examine advances in the field.
The congress includes reporting sessions by Arab liver transplant programmes, state-of-the-art lectures, organ donation session, round-table discussions and free oral presentations.
Congress President and Senior Consultant at HMC, Professor Hatem Khalaf, said it was a great achievement for Doha to be chosen as the venue for the congress and for HMC to host the event.
“It is through conferences such as this one that we can share our knowledge and experience and work towards our goal of providing the best possible treatment and care for our patients,” Khalaf said.
He said the Qatar Centre for Organ Transplantation had successfully launched its liver transplant programme in 2011. Since then, three successful liver transplants have been performed, with all patients doing well.
“HMC is proud to host this conference as part of our commitment to promote research and education by supporting scientific societies and organisations such as the Pan Arab Liver Transplant Society, The Transplantation Society and the International Liver Transplantation Society.”
The congress’ programme includes panel discussions on liver transplantations in the Arab world, organ donation in Arab countries and special issues in liver transplantations.
