DOHA: Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) and National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) have launched informative lectures, led by Qatar’s leading scholars and specialists and inspired by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Jassim Al Thani: A Leader’s Legacy exhibition at QMA Gallery 10 at Katara.
A lecture on the literature and poetry of Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Era will be presented by Dr Rabia Al Kuwari tomorrow, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Auditorium.
On January 20, Mohammed Ali Abdulla will discuss the methods of conservation and restoration of the Sheikh Abdulla Bin Jassim Al Thani and Old Rayyan Fort. This lecture will also be held at MIA Auditorium from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
The talks and lectures are being led by the NMoQ as part of the expo with the support of principal partner ExxonMobil.
Organised in three phases, the exhibition brings to life Qatar’s development beginning with Sheikh Abdullah’s succession to power in 1913 and the start of the modern State of Qatar. The story then moves to Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim’s Old Palace - the history of the Palace itself, its occupancy by the ruling family, geographical location in the Fareej Al Sulatah or (Sharq) of Doha, and its importance as the centre of rule in Qatar. Moving into modern times, the exhibit showcases the transition of what was a former palace to Qatar’s first museum in 1975, and subsequently displays the ambitious plans of QMA to develop the old palace site into the new National Museum of Qatar. As part of this exhibition, NMoQ also offers a range of curriculum-based educational workshops and exhibition tours for different ages and abilities, in both Arabic and English. The Peninsula
