DOHA: Fifty-nine students from Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s partner universities have learnt about leading with integrity at a six-day institute, designed to support their growth into future leaders.
The annual LeaderShape programme included experiential learning activities, time for self-reflection and dialogue and a panel session with guest speakers who drew on their leadership expertise to guide the students’ development.
LeaderShape, in its ninth year in Qatar and coordinated by the Student Life team of HBKU, forms part of EBDA – an ongoing leadership development programme involving HBKU and Qatar University and sponsored by Maersk Oil Qatar.
The programme focuses on building leadership skills in students through experience-based learning.
Ameena Hussain, Director, Student Life, said, “LeaderShape started in the US but its reputation for supporting students to reflect, learn and then develop leadership skills is entrenched in Qatar after nine years.
“The concept of leading with integrity is a running theme throughout the programme, and it is always pleasing to see students define it in their way, based on individual personality style, cultural reference and vision.
“I congratulate the students who took part, and the guest speakers from industry who provided real life insights about the challenges and opportunities of modern leadership. The merging of theory and practical workshops and insight was a powerful mix again at LeaderShape.”
Each of the six days,  LeaderShape focused on a different theme, including a team challenge course where problem- solving and trust were needed and another where a transformational blueprint was needed to overcome a situation of chaos and change.
LeaderShape this year featured five speakers, including Moza Al Naimi, Head, Shared Services, Maersk Oil Qatar’s Human Resource Department who encourage the students not to wait for opportunities, but seek  them out and take responsibility for their personal development.
Another speaker, Mohammed Arif, Head of Learning,  Enterprise Qatar, challenged the students to develop skills in relationship management and collaboration.
LeaderShape is open to all students attending HBKU and its partner universities and those attending Qatar University, who are interested in further developing leadership and problem-solving skills in a challenging environment. The Peninsula
