Washington - A bus carrying 12 inmates and three prison staff collided with a train in Texas Wednesday, a prison spokesman said, and 10 people were reported killed.
The Odessa American said Sheriff Mark Donaldson had confirmed 10 deaths in the collision.
Jason Clark, director of public information for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, said the accident occurred on a busy stretch of highway as the bus carried inmates from one prison facility in Abilene in western Texas to another in the city of El Paso.
"The bus left the roadway and made contact with the train," Clark said.
"We don't have much information at this point," he said.
"We're receiving preliminary information at this point that there are fatalities and there are injuries," Clark added.
