Doha, Qatar: Qatar University (QU) hosted the 10th meeting of the Student Advisory Councils in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, with the participation of representatives from student councils at universities across the GCC.
The meeting aimed to strengthen Gulf student dialogue, promote the values of citizenship and teamwork, and support joint student initiatives that contribute positively to university communities in the region.
The meeting forms part of a series of regular gatherings that seek to advance student engagement in GCC countries and enhance cooperation among Gulf youth on academic, social, and developmental issues, supporting the continuous development of higher education and youth initiatives across the region. The programme featured interactive discussion sessions focused on student-led solutions and initiatives, alongside internal meetings for each student council.
Participants reviewed successful models in student leadership, volunteer work, and community initiatives, voted on the most impactful proposals, and developed a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing the performance and effectiveness of student councils.
Commenting on the meeting, Amal Mohammed Al-Suwaidi, Senior Specialist at QU’s Student Representative Board, said: “The GCC Student Advisory Councils meeting represents a valuable platform for strengthening collaboration and communication among students, while reinforcing the concept of joint student engagement at the regional level. Such gatherings play an important role in exchanging expertise and highlighting successful experiences in student leadership, volunteerism, and community initiatives.”
She added that the meeting opens new avenues for constructive engagement among students, fosters a sense of belonging and teamwork, and supports initiatives that serve student interests, contributing to the institutional development of student councils and preparing a responsible generation capable of active participation in sustainable development.
Mohammed Hashem Al-Sayed, President of the Student Representative Board, highlighted the importance of participation, stating: “The meeting provides a valuable opportunity to connect with peers from GCC universities, exchange ideas and experiences related to student council operations, and learn from successful models in managing student councils and unions.” He noted that such meetings strengthen cooperation and collective action, instill leadership and responsibility among students, reinforcing their role as active contributors within their university communities, and advancing joint Gulf student engagement.
The meeting concluded with a guided tour of Qatar University’s campus, where participants explored the university’s facilities and academic environment, followed by a recognition ceremony for participants.
