Al Sadd players celebrate after scoring a goal against Umm Salal during a Qatar Stars League match yesterday.

Doha:  Qatar Stars League (QSL) leaders Lekhwiya went down 2-0 to fourth-placed El Jaish at home yesterday.
The loss meant that the defending champions dropped down a point to second place behind
Al Sadd after the ‘Wolves’
mauled Umm Salal 4-1 earlier in the day.
El Jaish put their faith in defence yesterday and after a start-stop first half, the scores were level at 0-0. However, things changed in the second half.
In the 55th minute, Romarinho pounced onto a pass from Mohamed Methnani and scored from point-blank range.
Eleven minutes later, Yasir Abu Baker snatched the ball from Mohamed Moosa, who was careless with the ball, and made a 40m dash to easily score past the goalkeeper.
With Lekhwiya’s defeat, Al Sadd climbed to the top of the QSL standings.
Salal were reduced to 10-men as early as the 13th minute and they never recovered from that. For Sadd, Khalfan Ibrahim scored a brace and the other two goals were scored by Hassan Al Haydos and Nadir Belhadj.
Salal got a consolation goal through Tuncay Sanli in the 89th minute.
With this win Sadd are now back at the top of the standings and now have a one point lead over arch-rivals Lekhwiya.
In the other match of the day, Al Ahli got back to winning ways with a 3-0 defeat of Al Gharafa.
Ahli striker Alain Dioko scored the opener in the 10th minute and then Mulota Kabangu doubled their advantage in the 36th minute. Skipper Meshal Abdullah completed the rout with a strike in the 51st minute.
