Doha: Sammy Monroe Junior II shot 30 points and managed six assists with seven rebounds as El Jaish pulled off a comfortable 98-71 win against Al Ahli Sports Club at Al Gharafa Indoor Hall in their Qatar Basketball League game yesterday.
El Jaish’s score also included 25 points shot by Vernon Macklin who was also involved in three assists and eight rebounds apart from those added by Yousuf Mohmmed (10 points with six assists and 15 rebounds) and Babcar Dieng (12 points with three assists and three rebounds).
For Al Ahli, Terrence Joyner Junior (26 points with three assists), Ndoye Elhadj Seydou (20 points and two assists) and Mustafa Elsadiq (20 points and nine rebounds) made useful contributions.
Later in the afternoon at the same venue, Al Wakrah beat Al Arabi in a game which hung in the balance until the final quarter.
After taking a 30-11 lead in the first quarter, Al Wakrah went into extend the lead at the end of the second quarter, adding 22 more points in reply to Al Arabi’s 13.
Al Arabi came back strongly in the third quarter, adding 34 points to reduce the gap while Al Wakrah managed only 21.
Al Arabi added 23 in the final quarter, five more than what Al Wakrah netted, but that was not enough for them to secure a victory as Al Wakrah became the deserving winners with 91 points while Al Arabi had to satisfied with 81.
It was more like a two man affair for Al Arabi as Temi Narcellius Soyebo (32 points and 11 assists) and Todd Edward O’Brien (29 points and three assists) shared 61 points between them while Boney Harold Watson was the star for winners.
Watson dunked 24 points while also involving in eight assists and three rebounds while Adamu Saaka (20 points, two assist) also shone for Al Wakrah.
