DOHA: Minister of Energy and Industry, H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, observed National Sport Day by cycling at a tent set up by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) at Katara beach yesterday.
The Minister was accompanied by a group of senior officials of Kahramaa, including President of Kahramaa, Issa bin Hilal Al Kuwari and Technical Affairs Director, Ahmed Nasser Al Naser. They joined the Minister in cycling.
“Qatar is the only country to make a national day for sports to educate citizens and expatriates about the importance of sports and health,” said Minister of Energy and Industry, H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada. He also said that the awareness about sports in the country is growing year-by-year.
Speaking with media persons, Al Sada said that this year the sport day is very special not only because of growing number of participants and varieties of activities but also because of enthusiasm of the public in taking part in the event.
“Qatar is the country of love and joy and this day is considered a festival of unity for each and everyone living in this land under the leadership of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani,” said Al Sada.
“Sport day is one of the most important events on state level, therefore an official holiday is declared on this day,” said President of Kahramaa, Issa bin Hilal Al Kuwari.
He said that the sport day aims at creating sport sprit among people to help develop their personalities and discipline them.
“Doing sport activities in group create sprit of team work to bring creativity and innovation that reflects eventually on the performances of employees,” said Al Kuwari.
He said that sport day encourages people on physical exercises and sport activities and usually people started doing exercises for long in advance so they could be fit on this day.
“Kahramaa has been participating in Sport Day and other events being held on state levels and it distributes pamphlets to create awareness among people about rationalisation of electricity and water,” said Al Kuwari.
“Public Relation Department at Kahramaa prepared video footage to educate the employees about the importance of physical exercise and sport activities,” said Mohamad Ali Al Muhannadi, Director of the Department.
He said that with the help of video footage the employees were explained that how physical exercises and sports help improve their health condition and keep them fit and sound.
“Kahramaa set up a separate sport facility equipped with various types of exercise tools at its headquarters so the employees could do physical exercise regularly,” said Al Muhannadi.
Kahramaa organised various games and matches including volleyball, beach football and table tennis at its tent at Katara beach yesterday. Separate areas were made for women. Play area for children were also made to encourage them to participate in sport activities. Various entertainment games for children were also available.
The event was attended by big number of Kahramaa employees with their families. The participants were very excited and happy and wished to participate every year.
