DOHA: The recent gala dinner organised by the Social Development Center (SDC) has raised QR23,950,000 which would benefit the center’s entrepreneurial programmes.
The Brazilian-themed 8th SDC Gala Dinner at Qatar National Convention Centre was attended by the Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.
Held in partnership with ExxonMobil in Qatar, the dinner highlighted an auction of exclusive items which raised QR7.8m.
Among the items auctioned were the Emir’s spectacles, a jersey signed by retired Brazilian football legend Pelé and an authentic letter written by Mahatma Gandhi.
The gala night also featured a series of short films and exciting musical and artistic performances, including a freestyle football performance by Brazilian and Qatari entertainers, Brazilian band Tropicalia, The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and D1 Autre Monde, who demonstrated the ancient Brazilian martial art, Capoeira.
