DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC), in partnership with the social and charitable organisation, Subul, in Yemen, has implemented a week-long medical camp for the benefit of 4,500 eye patients, at a cost of QR135,000.
The camp was held at Al Moneera Hospital in the rural province of Hodeidah and supervised by the local Directorate of Health and Population.
It involved activities, including examination of patients, the dispensing and distribution of prescription glasses and cataract operations, with around 4,500 patients examined, including 536 cataract removals and 800 pairs of glasses distributed. Free medicines were distributed to patients.
The camp witnessed a large turnout of patients from various districts of Hodeidah and from further away in the provinces of Taiz, Mahaweet and Hajja. Ophthalmologists from Yemen and Pakistan ran the camp. The opening ceremony of the camp was attended by the secretary-general of the local council, the director of Health Bureau, QC Engineer Rami Mansoob, Head, Construction Department, and Dr Fahim Al Haj, coordinator, Department Programmes.
In a statement, Al Haj said this step comes within the framework of QC’s desire to continue its humanitarian efforts in Yemen to help the poor and needy, noting that these efforts will continue in various humanitarian fields.
In light of QC’s efforts in the financing of the camp and cooperation with local authorities, the Health and Population Office presented QC with a certificate of appreciation for its consistent support for the health sector in Yemen. QC plans to implement eye and medical camps throughout the year.
