Public, private sectors join hands in fight against infection

Doha: The private sector and the community have joined hands with the government in fighting against the spread of COVID-19 by raising awareness and taking measures to protect themselves and others from the disease.

Some companies have started using thermal devices to screen the employees, and those with fever, cold and cough are instructed to remain at home. Hand sanitisers have also been installed at many places in the offices and workplaces.

Informative literature enhanced with graphics which carry instructions on how to avoid catching COVID-19 have been prominently posted at entrances of residential buildings, inside elevators and corridors. 
In a fresh action yesterday, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) announced to close Al Khor Family Park and Dahl Al Hamam Park temporarily to protect the residents from the spread of COVID-19. The decision is part of a number of precautionary measures taken by MME to protect the citizens and expatriate from coronavirus. 

“Within the framework of the preventive measures taken by the State of Qatar to limit the spread of the coronavirus, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment decided to temporarily close Al Khor Family Park and Dahl Al Hamam Park, until further notice, in order to ensure the safety of the visitors of the parks, wishing health and safety for all,” the Ministry tweeted yesterday afternoon.

The municipalities also came forward to ensure health and hygiene at abattoirs, markets and public places. The Health Monitoring Units different municipalities have intensified inspection campaigns. The inspectors of various municipalities are also ensuring cleaning and sterilising stores on regular basis, and disposing of any waste immediately.

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) shared video messages in the languages of major expatriate communities including Urdu, Hindi,  Malayalam, Nepali and Filipino on its twitter handle explaining the key measures to follow to protect residents from COVID-19 and other infections.

The messages were delivered by Dr. Hassan Ahmedullah from HMC’s Communicable Disease Center; Ilder Casmurlo from HMC’s Rumailah Hospital; Rama Uprery from HMC; Dr. Kadavil Chacko from HMC’s Infectious Diseases Consultant and Dr. Sanjay, HMC Consultant in Microbiology.

The Ministry of Public Health called upon all citizens and residents to avoid crowded places and postpone holding social gatherings for the time being, for their own well being and that of the community.

The Ministry also advised people to wash hands often or use hand sanitisers and keep a distance of at least one metre (3 feet) from people who have symptoms of illness.
