Patna: A polling party in Bihar’s Nawada Lok Sabha constituency was yesterday attacked by Maoists while returning to the district headquarters after conducting a repoll at a polling booth. There were no casualties, police said.
The polling party was returning from Dania polling booth when it was attacked, a police official in Nawada district said. A gun battle ensued between police and the Maoists after the rebels opened fire at the polling party. None of the polling officials or police personnel were injured.
Meanwhile, repolling in 33 booths in five of the six parliamentary constituencies of Bihar that went to the polls April 10 ended peacefully yesterday.
Parties asked to submit meeting videos in six hours
Kolkata: In the wake of a series of hate speeches by political leaders in various states, the Election Commission has instructed parties to submit unedited video recordings of their public meetings to the poll panel.
“Political parties will now have to submit unedited CDs of video recordings of their public meetings to the EC within six hours of such a meeting,” assistant CEO, West Bengal, Amitjyoti Bhattacharya told media persons here.
The chief electoral officers have been asked to closely monitor campaigns on a day to day basis and initiate quick legal action against politicians delivering hate speeches, as per the EC order. The EC has also directed that it would be the responsibility of the district magistrate and police superintendents to start simultaneous proceedings for the model code of conduct violations.
