DOHA: Qatar Airways’ flight to Paris was delayed by five hours yesterday and several Doha-bound flights were diverted elsewhere, including Dubai, due to windy and dusty weather yesterday.
The Doha-Paris flight was scheduled to leave at 8.25am but it actually took off at 1.20pm, according to Al Sharq. A flight coming in from London hovered over Doha for two hours and was later diverted to Dubai, the daily said.
Meanwhile, the dusty and windy conditions are forecast to continue at least until later this evening with the day expected to be a little cooler today than yesterday. Northwesterly wind may be moving at speeds ranging from 20 to 30 knots (56km) an hour and at times at 65km an hour, a routine forecast issued by the weather bureau for today said. However, as night falls the wind would slow down to 20 knots an hour and later, to 12 knots.
“There will be poor visibility due to blowing dust,” the forecast said. The sea will be choppy due to high winds accompanied with light dust. Offshore, wind can move at a speed of 74km an hour at times, the bureau has warned.
“We hope that by tomorrow the weather would be normal,” Abdullah Al Mannai, researcher and analyst at the weather bureau, told this newspaper.
