SHARJAH // A man who had been on the run after being accused of indecent assault because he featured prominently in a “lewd” video taken at a wedding ceremony in Sharjah has turned himself in.
A local daily reported that Khalid Houria was arrested at Sharjah International Airport on-board an Air Arabia flight which had arrived from Oman. He is the first accused in the case, along with 10 others, nine of whom have now been arrested. Two remain at large.
The accused contacted the General Command at Sharjah Police on Friday evening to inform authorities that he would be arriving at the airport on Saturday. Following his arrest he was referred to Public Prosecution for questioning.
When questioned on the charges of sexual assault, Khalid Houria said he was present at the wedding with the other guests and denied assaulting the third accused, A A H.
He argued that the dances featured in the video are legal.
Prosecution ordered the imprisonment of Mr Houria.
The second hearing will take place on Thursday at the Khor Fakkan Criminal Court, presided over by counsellor Mohammed Al Zarooni.
