Galfar Al Misnad concluded its ‘Safe Drive Campaign 2019’ with a closing ceremony and awareness session for its staff recently at the Oryx Rotana Hotel.

The event was attended by Ministry of Interior’s representatives; Lt. Ahmed Al Kathiri; Lt. Eid Muhammed Al Hajri, Traffic Awareness Officers; and Faisal Al Hudawi, Community Reach Out Office Coordinator.

The engineering conglomerate has been conducting this company wide campaign on a yearly basis since 2006, with the intention to inculcate a culture of best driving practices and defensive driving amongst employees, and thereby reduce traffic accidents and violations.

Addressing the ceremony, Lt. Ahmed Al Kathiri appreciated the management of Galfar Al Misnad for continuously organising traffic awareness programmes for all their employees on an annual basis.

He emphasised that these kinds of campaigns contribute in reducing the number of traffic accidents and deaths. He urged Galfar employees to abide by the traffic rules and regulations strictly, and to support and cooperate with the Traffic Department to make roads safer.

Staff were also given the opportunity to clarify doubts on topics like traffic rules, licence procedures, and traffic violations, through an interactive session with the MoI delegates.

Various other informative presentations on safe driving practices were also given at the event by the company’s Senior General Manager, Infrastructure Division, Hemachandran S; HSE Manager Venkatesan Kulandaivelu; and a special trainer from DISS HSE Training Institute, Tara Kelly.

The campaign that kicked off at Galfar Al Misnad’s Head Office on March 16, involved detailed safety awareness sessions that were conducted by HSE Officer Parag Gaikwad over three weeks at company project sites, camps, and offices; for all drivers, operators, and staff.

“Our aim is Zero Harm to our employees, and through this campaign, we hope to contribute to building a better and safer driving environment in Qatar,” explained Anwar Sadath, head of the company’s Plant Division.

Anwar said that this awareness campaign has resulted in a consistent reduction in accidents and violations over the years. Galfar Al Misnad’s Executive Director, Satish G. Pillai, called upon employees to strive to further bring down accidents and violations by at least 50% in the coming year.

The campaign saw an overwhelming response with active participation by over 850 drivers, operators, and staff at the various awareness sessions. The interactive sessions also encouraged participants to share their accident experiences with their colleagues, and explain how they managed to mitigate the risks.
