Doha: Shantiniketan Indian School (SIS) Student Council members were conferred with leadership badges for the Academic Year 2022–2023 in a grand Investiture Ceremony that was held in the school's Multipurpose Hall attended by parents and teachers.
Head Girl, Sneha Tom welcomed the gathering and expressed gratitude for conducting this formal event. The event was presided over by Rasheed Ahmed, President of the Managing Committee of SIS.
Ahmed along with Dr. Subhash B Nair, Director Academics, and Pamela Ghosh, Principal, and Dudley O’Connor, Vice-Principal, conferred the badges of office to Jibraeel Khan– Head Boy; Sneha Tom– Head Girl; Abdul Samad– Sports Captain; Sadia Akter - IT Secretary; Rohan Rajesh – Literary Secretary; Safa Fathimathu – Cultural Secretary; Bishal Chanda – Assistant Head Boy; Aisha Siddiqa – Assistant Head Girl; Haya Fathima – Assistant IT Secretary; Aisha Manaal - Assistant Literary Secretary; Syed Ahmed – Assistant Sports Captain; Narmin Abdulla– Assistant Cultural Secretary; the House Captains and the House Prefects.
Addressing the newly appointed Student Council Members, Ahmed reminisced his school days. He spoke about responsibilities and mindfulness and also advised the students to handle situations with respect and care. Ahmed also expressed his openness and availability to meet them as and when required.
Director Academics, Dr. Subhash B Nair, addressed the students and congratulated them for the responsibilities conferred on them.
He reminded the new leaders that leadership is nothing but a pure service to the community. Nair said that the school wants them to show to entire students’ community what a leader should do.
“Whatever they are supposed to be doing, speaking, thinking must reflect their leadership. This position given to them is an opportunity to practise leadership.”
Principal Pamela Ghosh Dasgupta said true leaders are those who empower others, who lead but lead with humility. She also talked about some C’s of leadership.
“You should have clarity, commitment, conviction and courage to lead. She also advised the leaders to continue to "showcase the value, the opportunities, the experiences that the school has imbibed in you and that shall carve a niche for yourself in the world in days to come”.
