DOHA: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is planning to re-evaluate the size of endowments (Waqf) in Qatar, which, according to current estimates, is QR5bn.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari on the sidelines of the sixth forum on endowments, which began here yesterday.

He added that the ministry intended to develop new products to increase the size and assets of endowments in Qatar, pointing to the major role of endowments in the local community, especially in areas of education, health, construction of mosques and various charitable projects.

He also noted that the forum was a platform for discussions and consultations to find new ways for better management and the best use of endowments. The forum is part of efforts by Qatar to strengthen the role of Waqf in the Islamic world, he added.
