Kabul: At least 111 Taliban militants were killed during military operations in various provinces of Afghanistan in the past 24 hours.
General Zahir Azimi, spokesman for the ministry of defence of Afghanistan, said the militants were killed following military operations in Kunar, Maidan Wardak, Zabul, Kandahar, Uruzgan and Farah provinces.
Azimi further added that four Afghan national army soldiers were also killed following improvised explosive device (IED) attack.
In the meantime, Azimi said the anti-government armed militants have increased to their insurgency activities and carried out attacks in 21 provinces in the last 48 hours.
He said the anti-government suffered heavy casualties after the Afghan security forces responded to their offensive and that the Afghan national army soldiers also confiscated four improvised explosive devices during the operations.
Two teachers gunned down
Islamabad: Two teachers were killed when unknown gunmen opened fire near a government high school in Hangu, in North West of Pakistan’s yesterday morning, (Geo) News reported.
The school teachers were on their way to discharge their duties at the government high school in Gul Bagh area of Hangu at 7.30am when armed attackers ambushed them with bullet shots, leaving the two teachers severely injured while the assailants escaped successfully from the scene, police said.
The locals shifted the wounded teachers to the District Headquarter Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
The students and the local residents protested against the killing of the teachers and blocked the main road for a while. They demanded the authorities to arrest the killers.
