New York: Qatar took part in an event organised by International Crisis Group in New York to honour former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton for her efforts for peace and to greet new generation works to achieve a world free of disasters and war. Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, attended the event.
Qatar donated $100,000 in support of the group which was founded in 1995 as an NGO on the initiative of a group of transatlantic figures who despaired at the international community’s failure to anticipate and respond effectively to the tragedies in the early 1990s in Somalia, Rwanda and Bosnia. What distinguishes the group from other organisations in the field is a combination of field-based analysis, practical policy prescriptions and high-level advocacy. QNA
