Doha: Singapore received a record 11,809 visitors from Qatar in 2013 — 27 percent higher than the preceding year. The city-state welcomed 15.5m visitors in 2013, up 7.2 percent from 2012. Tourism revenues hit a new high of $18.7bn, up 1.6 percent over 2012.
“Singapore is a perfect destination for tourists around the world. It’s rich history, multicultural and multilingual society offers tourists an unforgettable experience,” Ambassador Wong Kwok Pun told a press conference at Crown Plaza Hotel. Chief among Singapore’s recent attractions are its integrated resorts — Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa — which provide services from accommodation and dining to shopping and entertainment of every kind.
“Qatar is a small country but a rapidly growing visitor market for Singapore. We welcome Qatari visitors who increasingly come to experience the brilliance of our food, culture, arts, and world-class entertainment — from theme parks and museums to F1 Grand Prix – but also for business and school trips,” said Mohamed Hafez Marican, Area Director for the Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board.
According to officials, another aspect of Singapore’s appeal for Qatari residents is its reputation for luxury hospitality, with nearly every five-star, premium hotel brand represented in the city.
“We have seen a steady increase in the number of Qatari guests over the last few years. They appreciate our bespoke levels of service — personal butlers come standard with each room — our respect for guest privacy, and our focus on culinary excellence,” said Frank Beck, General Manager, The St Regis Singapore.
As trade between Singapore and Qatar grows, the number of Qatari residents travelling to Singapore for business meetings and conferences is increasing.
Asia’s top “convention city” 10 years in a row, Singapore plays host to world class platforms such as the Singapore International Water Week and the Singapore International Energy Week, which attracts huge participation from the Middle East.
