Doha: Reigning Miss Universe R’Bonney Gabriel is in the Philippines for the first time since she won the crown in January this year, and five years since her last visit.
R’Bonney arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila on Wednesday, May 10, and was welcomed by members of the media and her Filipino relatives, including her father, Remigio Gabriel.
Her journey in the Philippines began with her attendance at the Miss Universe Philippines Fashion and Charity Gala Night at Okada Manila wearing a sparkly blue and silver Terno by Filipino designer Mark Bumgarner.
During her speech, she spoke of her Filipino roots, stating: "It has been five years since I last visited and I had so many memories of visiting my father's country growing up as a child. And this is one of my favorite places to visit because Filipino people are so hospitable, they are so welcoming, they are so charming, so funny, have the best food, but most of all, have the best hearts."
“I am half Filipina, half American. I feel quite lucky to be Filipino because I would say you’re one of the best countries that compete and one of the best countries that I would say put our all into pageants," she further added.
R’Bonney became the first Filipino-American Miss Universe when she won the crown in January this year.
During her stay, the 2022 Miss Universe also did not miss the much-awaited coronation night of the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 which was held yesterday, May 13, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
