Jaipur: Spiritual guru Asaram Bapu, arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, yesterday moved Rajasthan High Court’s Jodhpur bench for bail, a lawyer said.
The 72-year-old Asaram is currently lodged in the Jodhpur Central Jail after the district and sessions judge (rural) remanded him to 14 days’ judicial custody in the sexual assault case. The custody ends on September 16.
The lower court had on September 4 rejected Asaram’s bail application. “We have filed a bail application in the Rajasthan High Court today (Friday) seeking bail for him in the case,” said Pradeep Chaudhary, one of the spiritual guru’s advocates in Jodhpur.
