MANILA: Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized at least 50kg of shabu in a buy-bust operation in Las Piñas City yesterday morning. Two Chinese nationals, suspected to be drug traffickers, were also arrested in the 10.30am bust. The arrested suspects were identified as Jang Wei Chung, 30, alias Airas Chen, of 236 Onpin St, Sta Cruz, Manila and Yaya Zheng, 26. They were arrested at Pamplona II. Also seized from them was a Mitsubishi Montero sports utility vehicle (PQZ-991). PDEA said the shabu had a street value of at least P250m ($5.7m).
Agusan kidnap suspect nabbed
DAVAO CITY: Police have arrested a suspect in the 2011 hostage-taking of over a dozen teachers and students in the southern Philippines. Superintendent Martin Gamba, spokesperson for the police office of the Southern Philippine region of Caraga, said the suspect, Allan Brital Perez, 45, was apprehended at Poblacion village, Prosperidad town, in Mindanao’s Agusan del Sur Province on Thursday. Perez is tagged as one of the leaders of some 20 tribal gunmen who swooped on a primary school in April and kidnapped more than 10 teachers and schoolchildren over a dispute with a rival tribal clan.
Bet collectors arrested
CAMP FLORENDO: The Region 1 police arrested 26 jueteng (numbers game) bet collectors in Pangasinan and Ilocos Sur yesterday. Police said 24 were arrested in Barangay Paras, Candon City, Ilocos Sur and two in Pangasinan.
