Doha: Qatari champion Khalifa Al Attiyah will resume his international participations through the Cyprus Rally — the fifth round of the Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) — with his experienced co-driver Adel Hussain.
Al Attiyah thanked QMMF President Nasser bin Khalifa Al Al Attiyah for his special role in supporting motor sport locally and internationally and then confirmed his full readiness for the rally.
The Qatari rally champion said it was his favourite rally. “And I will have my experienced co-driver Adel Hussain. So all these elements would help us occupy an advanced position,” Al Attiyah said.
Regarding his sudden withdrawal from the International Lebanon Rally — which was the fourth round of the MERC — Al Attiyah said the fire accident that occurred in the third stage of the MERC was to blame. “We learned the lesson well and we will try to correct all mistakes at the Cyprus Rally to achieve the best results in the name of Qatar throughout Group N,” he said.
Al Attiyah started his career in 2002 in Formula 4 in the UK. In the same year, he competed in class T2 Qatar Local Championship for rallies and managed to achieve the first position. Then he stopped competing till 2005 after which he competed in the Qatar Local Championship in 2008 with his Evo 6. He stopped again in 2013 but he resumed
his career through the QMMF with his experienced co-driver Adel Hussain.
