Amman: Sheikh Salman bin Jabor Al Thani, head of the astronomy section of Qatar Center for Astronomy and Space Sciences, who is also advisor to the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, has expressed Qatar Center’s readiness to support the building of a planetarium and an optical telescope in Jordan for scientific and astronomical purposes.
This was discussed during a meeting between Sheikh Salman bin Jabor Al Thani and the Director General of the Royal Jordanian Geographic Center, Brigadier General Dr Awni Khasawneh, at the Center’s headquarters.
They also discussed the establishment of an integrated database with information on Arab institutions and scholars working in the fields of space and astronomy at the global level.
According to a press release issued by the Royal Jordanian Geographic Centre, Sheikh Salman backed the idea of establishing centres of joint research in astronomy and space, and supporting scientific projects that contribute to achieving the objectives in these areas, and investment in training and technical advisory services.
He welcomed collaboration with the Royal Jordanian Geographic Center.
