DOHA: Car crashes mostly end in bitter memories, but one such mishap here had a happy ending as a young Qatari man, whose four-wheeler was hit in the rear by a Qatari woman’s car, fell in love with her and the two decided to marry.
The accident took place on the February 22nd Road recently, and after the Qatari proposed to the woman, they got engaged and married quickly — within two days.
Both were busy talking on their mobile phones when the accident occurred, Al Sharq reported yesterday. The two got down from their cars in fury and began blaming each other.
A heated exchange followed as none would admit the mistake. Both of them, therefore, rushed to the traffic department in a huff.
When they reached the traffic department, the woman was pleasantly surprised that the man owned responsibility for the accident and said it happened as he was talking on the phone.
The duo came out together and the woman thanked the man profusely for his change of heart. They exchanged mobile phone numbers and the man called her the next morning and proposed. The woman accepted the proposal after her family agreed.
They decided to tie the knot the next day in a simple ceremony. The woman was quoted by Al Sharq as saying that she had an instant liking for the man as she found him to be gentlemanly and honest.
“I was impressed by the admission of his mistake and could not refuse when he called me the next day to propose,” she added.
Local networking sites were, meanwhile, abuzz with the story yesterday with commentators describing it as the quickest Qatari marriage so far.
One person said it is hard to believe the story is real. “Even if it is real it has been presented in a way that it sounds unreal,” he said. “Go to the February 22nd Road if you want to marry,” said another commentator in a lighter vein.
Another commentator said: “I met with an accident with a woman in the Industrial Area some time ago but the woman didn’t like me.”
