Doha: The Ministry of Environment has underlined Qatar’s efforts to preserve the environment, citing laws and regulations as well as institutions, agencies and programmes to boost these efforts.
Qatar also continues to host conferences, forums and environment exhibitions as it has chosen the developmental path that balances benefits for the current and future generations, the ministry said in a statement on the eve of Arab Environment Day yesterday.
The ministry said this year’s theme, ‘Green technology as a means towards sustainable development’ is in line with environmental goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aim at developing Qatar as an advanced country capable of achieving sustainable development and securing a decent life for its people.
It said Qatar implements plans, policies and programmes to enhance sustainable development, increase the share of green sectors of the economy and the number of green jobs, lower the amounts of energy and materials in production processes, reduce waste and pollution, and substantially decrease emissions of greenhouse gases.
The ministry said the theme this year highlights the need to achieve a balance between development requirements and the urgent need to preserve the environment and keep it clean, safe and viable. QNA
