The podium winners at the 17th GCC Under-18 and Under-21 Judo Championship celebrate at Qatar Women’s Sports Committee Hall at Aspire Academy on Saturday. Qatar team made an impressive show of force in the Championship to win the third place overall. Saudi Arabia topped with 21 medals, including 15 gold, four silver and two bronze. Kuwait finished in second place with 23 medals, five gold, 14 silver and four bronze. Hosts Qatar finished with 13 medals including two gold, three silver and eight bronze. Qatar’s Awad Al Nuaimi won the gold medal in U-90kg, his team-mates Emad Afanah clinched the silver medal in U-100 kg, Waleed Hanafi won the silver medal in U81 kg, Abbas Rida seized the bronze medal in U-60 kg, Nasser Al Ansi won the bronze medal in U-73 kg, Rida Nafoa claimed the bronze medal in Over 100 kg. The two-day long tournament organised by Qatar Taekwondo and Judo Federation (QTJF) brought together 85 players representing five GCC nations, including hosts Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
