Mexico City: An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale has struck the southern coast of Mexico, some 7.8km from San Dionisio del Mar.

The epicenter of Friday's tremor epicenter was just off the coast of Oaxaca state, in Mexico's southwest, and it struck at a depth of 59.5 kilometers (37 miles), according to the USGS.

There were no immediate reports of damage.

It comes less than a month after Mexico was hit by a destructive 7.1 magnitude quake which killed at least 337 people. In early September, an 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck the country, killing at least 98 people and producing more than 5,400 aftershocks.
