World Military Shooting championship kicks off

The 49th CISM World Military Shooting Championship was declared open by Lieutenant-General (Pilot) Ghanem bin Shaheen Al Ghanem at a colorful ceremony yesterday at Losail Shooting Range.
“The participating (50) countries competing in Qatar will increase the competitive spirit and strongly contribute to enrich the military world sports movement. I wish the participating athletes all success,” Lieutenant-General Al Ghanem said during the opening ceremony.
Losail Shooting Range will be the stage for world’s elite military shooters till November 19.
 Over 700 shooters from 50 countries will be vying for the top honours in both the men’s and women’s section in 12 categories, - six for men and an equal number for women.
Major General Dahlan Jamaan Al Hamad, the President of the Qatar Military Sport Association while welcoming the participating countries and shooters said:“We feel prevailed and proud that we are hosting shooters from 50 countries and some 720 shooters, both men and women in this event which shows the interest from around the world to participate in the event. All  will compete with the motto ‘friendship through sports’.”
“International military sports council is aware of the huge responsibility, risks and the challenges which faces the region and the whole world. As an international council we have intensified  our efforts to accomplish many peaceful projects in some unstable regions using sports fields , competition and rapprochement between armies instead of war and destruction,” Colonel Bruno Wolfensberger, President CISM Sport Committee Shooting said while speaking during the opening ceremony.
Bruno also praised the role of Qatar Armed forces in the CISM movement.
“Qatar Armed Forces enjoy a reputed place in the CISM movement due to its major support for this organization through hosting different CISM activities.”
 Hosts Qatar will have the largest delegation taking part in the championship.
The hosts have 29 shooters taking part.
