Gunmen shoot dead 18 oil workers in Iraq

BAQUBA, Iraq: Masked gunmen shot dead 18 oil and gas workers, most of them Iranians, outside the northeastern Iraqi town of Muqdadiya yesterday, medical and local sources said.
The workers, 15 of them from Iran and three from Iraq, were attacked as they dug a trench to extend a gas pipeline, Muqdadiya’s mayor told Reuters.
Two Iraqis were killed and twelve others wounded when a car bomb exploded in Al Nahrawan neighbourhood in eastern Baghdad. Security authorities said that the incident has caused damage to a number of cars and shops near the blast site .

Qaeda rebels seize 120 Syrian Kurds 

BEIRUT: Islamist rebels linked to Al Qaeda kidnapped at least 120 Kurdish civilians yesterday from a village near the Turkish border in Aleppo province, a monitoring group said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fighters entered Ihras, 20km south of the border town of Azaz, and took the captives, including at least six women, to an unknown location.
