DOHA: Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, a prominent businessman and philanthropist, has been presented with the first Dentons Social Impact Award 2014, given by the global law firm.
Matthew Jones, CEO, Dentons UKMEA, said the award was launched “to recognise efforts of those who work tirelessly for the disadvantaged around the world.”
It was given in recognition of Sheikh Thani’s achievements and outstanding contributions to social and humanitarian projects and charitable work that covers several parts of the world.
Sheikh Thani’s long-standing support of those most in need in Qatar and around the world make him the most deserving recipient of the award, Jones said as he conferred the award on him on Monday.
“His Excellency’s outstanding humanitarian and charitable work provides critical support to the world’s most vulnerable people — those who live in poverty; those with special needs and mental health issues; those displaced by war and natural disasters; those without access to food, clean water, medicine and education,” Jones said. He also praised the work done by Sheikh Thani’s charitable foundations and organisations.
The award, given by one of the global institutions known for fairness and credibility, is a new addition to Sheikh Thani’s unparalleled achievements in various fields. “I am honoured that our humanitarian and social efforts have received this recognition and attention from reputed international organisations. This means that we have succeeded in our attempt to deliver our services to the needy and afflicted people in different parts of the world, not only locally or regionally,” Sheikh Thani said as he accepted the award. This appreciation and the award reflect the humanitarian and social responsibility dimension of companies which need to be carried by all individuals and firms for society whatever their nationality, financial status or religion. This is in line with directives of the leadership to the business community in Qatar to assume their social responsibility towards local and global societies.”
The award was presented in a ceremony at Ezdan Hotel.
