MANILA, Philippines - One out of 11 people who had close contact with the Filipina nurse who tested positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-CoV) is being considered a "probable case."
The 10 others who were quarantined at the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine after showing symptoms of the disease were allowed to go home.
The 11 individuals who were quarantined were the nurse's husband and health workers at the Evangelista Medical Specialty Hospital in San Pedro, Laguna where she first consulted her medical condition after returning to the country.
Meanwhile, two of the nurse's co-passengers on he Saudu Arabia flight 360 are now under isolation and observation.
One of them is a suspected MERS-CoV patient while the other is under investigation.
The Palace called on the public to cooperate with preventing the spread of the virus.
"Muli po kaming nananawagan sa ating mga mamamayan na sundin at tumalima sa mga paalalang pangkalusugan o health advisories ng DOH tungkol sa MERS-CoV," Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in an interview with radio dzRB today.
The government is continuing its efforts in monitoring airports, seaports and other points of entry in the country to prevent the spread of MERS-CoV.
