DOHA: Tenders have been invited for four key warehousing projects that are to be built as part of an Economic Zone.
Qatar plans to have three Economic Zones and the first one near Hamad International Airport (HIA) plans to have extensive domestic logistic services.
The above-cited four storage projects are part of Economic Zone I. The Minister of Economy and Commerce said at an awards function held for the ministry’s employees yesterday that soon work on the four logistic projects for which tenders have been invited will begin.
H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani said Qatar is increasing its strategic food reserves and diversifying the sources of food supplies.
He also talked of Tamween (the scheme whereby citizens are provided some basic food items at highly subsidised prices) while detailing the initiatives and achievements of his ministry in 2014.
The Minister said that now his ministry will hold an awards function for its employees every year at which it will be talking of its achievements in the previous year and its future plans as a way to share information with the public.
The ministry’s interaction with the economy ministry is quite close, he said. Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani also graced the event at the ministry’s headquarters.
The Minister highlighted the cooperation between different state authorities to complete Al Farjan markets project.
He said swift completion of the project is something the ministry is looking to keep up with in future projects.
He stressed the importance of boosting the private sector in accordance with the country’s strategic plan to diversify the economy and highlighted the importance of the private sector as in important component of development.
He highlighted how the ministry’s hosting of a number of forums helped attract foreign investments.
The ministry honoured 125 employees for their efforts in 2014.
