Thai embassy presents books to national library

Doha: The Thai embassy has presented Qatar National Library (QNL), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), with books as part of Ambassador Piroon Laismit’s visit to promote cultural relations and exchange.
Dr Claudia Lux, Project Director, QNL, and other officials received the books.
Laismit said, “Books are a medium of philosophy and ways of thinking and civilisation of each country.
“Donating books on Thainess is one of the ways of shaping correct ideas about Thailand among foreigners and a medium of promoting better understanding between Thailand and Qatar which have different cultures and ways of life. He said with this educational cooperation, people-to-people ties and understanding, especially among younger generations, can be strengthened
Claudia Lux, Project Director, QNL, said, “Cultural ties between Qatar and Thailand are strong and distinguished and playing a great role in promoting cultural and historical exchanges.
“The books will enrich QNL’s collection and enhance opportunities for researchers to study Thai culture,” she added.
QNL’s Associate Director for Administration and Planning, Saadi A Al Said, and Dr Joachim Gierlichs, Associate Director for Special Collections and Archives, highlighted the rare materials and manuscripts related to Arab-Islamic civilisation and Heritage Collection’s most valuable items.
Last month, QNL received former Thai Foreign Minister, Dr Tej Bunnag, and Laismit at its Heritage Collection Building.
The Heritage Collection received Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn in January 2012. Former ambassador Panyarak Poolthup gifted a 200- year-old copy of the Quran in September 2013 which has benefited local researchers.
