Manchester, United Kingdom: Manchester City received a boost ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur as captain Vincent Kompany returned to the team following two months out with a calf injury.

The Belgium international, 29, last played for City in their 4-1 win over Sunderland on December 26 and had not started a game since the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa on November 8.

He slotted into central defence at the Etihad Stadium alongside Nicolas Otamendi, with Martin Demichelis dropping to the bench.

City went into the game in fourth place in the table, a point below third-place Spurs and six points behind leaders Leicester City, who lost 2-1 at second-place Arsenal earlier in the day.
