Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of Islamic Affairs, has published the book “Musnad of Imam Al-Humaydi” in a verified scholarly edition.

The publication comes as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to revive Islamic heritage and enrich the Islamic library with valuable and authoritative scholarly works that serve researchers and students of knowledge.

The book was originally authored by the eminent hadith scholar Abu Bakr Abdullah ibn Al‑Zubayr Al‑Humaydi, one of the leading hadith scholars of the third century AH.

The work has been edited, authenticated, and annotated by scholars Hussein Saleem Asad Al-Darani and Murhaf Hussein Asad.

The publication has been issued in three volumes and funded by the General Directorate of Endowments through the Endowment Fund for Scientific and Cultural Development in support of disseminating Islamic knowledge and serving students of Sharia sciences.

Musnad of Imam Al-Humaydi is considered one of the earliest and most important musnad collections of hadith. It is regarded as one of the foundational works relied upon by prominent hadith scholars, including Muhammad ibn Ismail Al‑Bukhari, who narrated directly from Al-Humaydi.

The book is also one of the most prominent sources preserving the narrations of the renowned scholar Sufyan ibn Uyaynah. Notably, Imam Al-Bukhari began his famous work Sahih al‑Bukhari with the well-known hadith narrated by Al-Humaydi: “Actions are judged by intentions.”

This scholarly edition is distinguished by its reliance on authenticated and verified manuscript copies. It includes hadith verification, explanations of uncommon terms, and biographical notes on the individuals mentioned. In addition, the book features multiple technical indexes that facilitate researchers’ access to its contents. The primary manuscript used by the editor also contains several documented scholarly audition notes (sama‘at), further enhancing its academic value and authenticity.

The publication underwent review and verification by the Section of Islamic Publications and Works within the Department of Islamic Affairs, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to presenting classical heritage works in a rigorous scholarly format befitting their academic significance.

The book is being distributed to holders of advanced degrees in Sharia, cultural institutions, universities, and public libraries through the Turath Hall at the Ministry’s headquarters in Al Dafna, as well as the distribution hall in Abu Hamour affiliated with the Islamic Books Section of the Department. The Ministry affirmed that the publication of this work aligns with its vision of reviving Islamic heritage books through collection, verification, printing, and distribution, and highlighting the treasures of manuscripts so that scholars and students of knowledge, both within Qatar and beyond, may benefit from them.
