DOHA: A lower criminal court here has sentenced an expatriate to a year in jail for using the personal details of his sponsor and transferring his Nojoom points to his personal account secretly.
Nojoom is an Ooredoo rewards programme in which a customer earns points for using Ooredoo services. Nojoom points can be used to recharge Hala (a pre-paid service) account, add extra SMS and minutes or get special gifts and vouchers from retail outlets.
The accused admitted to the crime saying he did it because his sponsor deducted some amount from his salary.
The court ordered him to be deported after serving the sentence.
The sponsor had also accused the expatriate for causing accident to his car that he claimed cost him QR33,000.
