DOHA: More than 100 applications have already been received for Qatar University’s PhD and Masters engineering programmes, according to College of Engineering (CENG) Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies Professor Abdelmagid Hamouda (pictured).
The applications were received during a recent Open Day for graduate programs. The deadline for applications for the PhD program is May 1 and masters on May 15.
The Open Day was an opportunity for the College to orient the more than 100 prospective engineers on the graduate programmes and their requirements.
Attending the event were CENG members Dean Dr Rashid Alammari, Associate Dean for Development and Industrial Relations Dr Saud Ghani, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Professor Adel Gastli, Coordinator of Research and Graduate Studies Dr Mohamed Arselene Ayari, department heads, and faculty members.
Prospective applicants learned about the Masters programs in Computing, Urban Planning & Design, Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering, and the programmes offered under the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering — Architecture, Urban Planning, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, Material Science and Engineering. The duration of the Masters programmes is two to four years, and four to eight years for PhD programmes.
Professor Hamouda noted that the large number of applicants to the degree programs is due to the quality of CENG programmes that is highly-recognised by industry, and the expertise of the well-qualified faculty from all over the world. “This event comes as response to the industry’s high demand for engineering graduates which is reflected in Qatar’s booming industry, and its need for qualified and experienced personnel,” he said.
