LAHORE: The Punjab province government is working on a project to evolve a computerised arms licence information management system in the province to purge society of illegal weapons.
Arms licences in booklet from will be replaced with computer chip cards, and for the purpose initial consultations have started between the Punjab government and NADRA to change the existing system of issuing of licences, Punjab Home Department sources said yesterday.
An error-free system will be introduced to control illegal weapons and identify bogus licences. Sources said the computerised chip card of every licence would be linked with arms manufacturers, sellers and repairers through a database.
Head found at cannibals’ home
MULTAN: Pakistani police re-arrested a convicted cannibal yesterday after finding a young boy’s head in his home.
Mohammad Arif, 35, and his brother Mohammad Farman, 30, from the small town of Darya Khan in central Pakistan, served two years in jail for cannibalism and were released last year.
Police said the two had dug up more than 100 corpses from the local graveyard and eaten them.
“Residents informed police after a stench emanated from the house of the two brothers. We raided the house yesterday morning and found the head of a young boy,” a district police chief, Ameer Abdullah said.
14 Taliban militants killed
Kabul: At least 14 Taliban militants were killed and six others were injured during military operations by Afghan security forces in the past 24 hours.
The ministry of interior affairs of Afghanistan following a statement said the operations were conducted jointly by Afghan national police, Afghan national army and Afghan intelligence – directorate of security operatives.
Interior ministry said at least 20 Taliban militants were also injured during the operations and various types of weapons and explosives were confiscated.
Police arrest 100 in Karachi
Islamabad: At least 100 suspects were nabbed during search operation in Madhu Ghot area of Karachi.
According to details, police conducted a search operation in Madhu Goth area on Sunday night and arrested 100 suspects.
Police sealed all the entry and exit points before the raid and launched house-to-house search.
Weapons of different calibre were also recovered from the arrested persons. Sources informed that more than 200 police officials took part in the search operation.
