Recent maritime disasters in the Mediterranean involving migrants

Rome--A recap of the most recent deadly migrant tragedies in the Mediterranean, following the death on Sunday of 400 migrants after their vessel capsized off the Libyan coast.
-- 2015 --
April 12: LIBYA: Up to 400 illegal migrants die after their vessel capsizes off the Libyan coast. 145 of the people on the sunken vessel are rescued.
-- 2014 --
August 22: LIBYA: 170 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa die when their boat sinks off the coast of Libya near Tripoli.
September 14: LIBYA: A boat carrying around 200 African migrants sinks east of Tripoli. Only 36 are rescued.
September 10: MALTA: Up to 500 migrants are feared to have drowned in the Mediterranean after human traffickers ram and sink their boat off Malta in what is called "the worst shipwreck in years".

October 3: ITALY: A craft that left Libya with 500 migrants from the Horn of Africa sinks near the island of Lampedusa, Sicily, killing at least 366 people.

April 6: ITALY: Around 150 Somali and Eritrean refugees disappear after their boat sinks south of Lampedusa.
June 2: TUNISIA: Between 200-270 migrants, for the most part from sub-Saharan Africa, perish off the coast of Tunisia as they try to reach Lampedusa. Their boat sinks, but 577 people are rescued.

March 29: LIBYA: More than 220 migrants go missing in a storm off Libya after a boat headed for Europe sinks.
